You can’t have a successful home business unless you have the proper office supplies. When it comes down to it, there are hundreds of supplies that you can buy to keep your home office moving in the direction of success. Of course, you do not need all of these. With that being said, you do want to purchase as many supplies as you need, even if you have to spend a bit of extra money. It is much better to have everything on hand than to get stuck without an important item.

The question is: which office supplies do you want to start out with? If you are new to working at home, you should consider the basics. From there, you will then be able to add others as you see fit.

Here are some of the most basic office supplies to consider buying:

1. Plenty of paper. This includes sticky notes, notebooks, and printer paper. No matter what type of business you are running, it is important that you have enough paper to go around day in and day out. Even if you are a one man show, you are sure to go through paper products on a regular basis. Out of all these, you will probably use printer paper the most. Keep in mind that buying in bulk is a great way to save money. Sure, it may cost you more up front, but in the long run you will make out.

2. Pens and pencils. Even though most businesses use the internet for the majority of tasks, this does not mean that you will never again pick up a pen or pencil. Make sure that you have plenty of these on hand so that you can always write on paper when need be. For most, one pack of pens and one pack of pencils will last a year, if not longer. Of course, if you have employees working with you, you may need to buy more.

3. Consider miscellaneous supplies that will help you to stay organized. Running a business is no easy task. If you are not organized, it will be an even more difficult process. Luckily, there are many organizational supplies that you can purchase. For instance, you can buy bins for all of your paperwork and mail, a mug for pens and pencils, and a desk organizer for miscellaneous items such as paper clips, rubber bands, etc.

All office supplies are important. But as you probably know, you will use some much more than others. It is essential that you have all the supplies that you need. This way, you can spend your time growing your business as opposed to shopping at a local office supply store.
