What is The Best Mid-Sized Luxury Sedan?

Best Mid-Sized Luxury Sedan
You are wandering around the new car lot and a smiling salesperson approaches. You ask, innocently enough, “What is the best mid-sized luxury sedan?” Each dealer will likely offer a different opinion, because “best” can mean so many different things. Most expensive? Highest fuel efficiency? Largest engine, highest approval rating — the list of measurable factors is long. But which one is best? This depends entirely on your personal preferences and requirements.
Measuring the Best
One way to determine which luxury sedan is best is by balancing the cost to performance. A very high-end car, such as the 2017 Cadillac STS, has an MSRP of $46,555. It ranks high in many comparisons, but struggles with fuel economy and has a puny four-cylinder, turbocharged base-model engine and undersized rear seats. So is it the best? Probably not.
What defines luxury? The peace of mind that comes from making an admirable purchase, perhaps, coupled with great handling and eco-friendly fuel efficiency. With that definition in mind, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu – especially since it has an MSRP that is less than half that of the Cadillac at $21,680.

This nimble sedan has sporty handling, features an exciting turbocharged engine that generates 250 horsepower, and it gets up to 36 MPG. It also has a spacious interior, intuitive center console and an available wireless charging station to balance quiet comfort with high-tech connectivity. Needless to say, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu is the best luxury sedan for many, by many measures.
Others to Consider
The Genesis G80 is another mid-sized luxury sedan to consider. Though it rivals the Cadillac in overall scores at U.S. News & World Report, it also rivals the Caddy in price – coming in at $41,400. However, if an impressive fuel economy and attractive physical features are important to you, you probably shouldn’t invest in the Genesis G80.
Two other mid-size luxury sedans to consider would be the Volvo S90 and the Lincoln MKZ. The Volvo S90 is for mid-size luxury sedan buyers who tend to look past the MSRP, as it costs a wheeze-inducing $47,945. However, if you’re looking for a car with luxury touches like a silky smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and Pilot Assist, you may be willing to pay the price. Just keep in mind that Volvo S90 doesn’t really offer a smooth ride, so it will be a bit more difficult to handle.

The Lincoln provides a midpoint price between the savvy Chevy and the budget-crimping Cadillac, with an MSRP of $35,170. It provides a smoother, quieter ride than the Volvo, but it does sacrifice the nimble feel of the Chevy and Genesis. The Lincoln is also made out of substandard materials, which may be a deal-breaker if quality build is a requirement for you.
