Default Six Steps to Selecting a Business Domain Name

No one should ever choose a domain name using his or her instinct, or random selection of some sort. Instead, selecting a domain name should involve purpose and thought beforehand.

There is a real philosophy to the process of choosing a domain name. If you choose the wrong domain name, you will find your business suffering severely. If people cannot find your website, how are they expected to bring you the business that you desire? And if your customers cannot remember your domain name, how are they supposed to find your website in the first place?

1. One method for choosing a domain name involves using the name of your business as the name of your domain. When part of the URL is made up of a purpose of the website, it is typically much easier for potential customers to remember the website and to locate it when needed.

2. If you are trying to create an industry domain name, using a generic name may be preferable. Select a name that represents the market segment completely, such as Car Insurance: Get an auto insurance quote, car insurance quotes and a fast online insurance policy. or http://www.booksales.com, which would perfectly represent the industries they are designed for.

3. Choose a domain name that has a .com extension whenever possible. If .com is not available, choose another top-level domain type, such as .org or .net

4. Short domain names are highly recommended over long ones if easy recollection is a goal of yours. Long domain names, on the other hand, can easily contain a larger number of beneficial keywords that make them another worthwhile option for domain naming. If a long name is dead-on and meaningful in nature, it is just as worthwhile as a short one, if not more so.

5. Domain names should always be easy to remember, easy to pronounce and easy to spell. Consider a domain name that is simple on all counts if you want it to be easily recalled and easily found on the World Wide Web.

6. There is a decent step-by-step process for determining the best domain name, which involves writing down what your site is about, its keywords and description. You can use all of this research to determine which keyword combination best suits your website. Then you would check availability for specific names and keywords on a search engine. If you cannot find the .com version of your ideal domain name, opt for .net or .org instead.

Nice guide, pretty much outlines the core basic of buying domain names. Add in there "choose a reliable registrar!"
