Directories do not show up in SERP. What are their real value. I like receiving money from a listing but do they really help.

Yeap. Definately listings in quality web directories really help in SERP.

Though there are more craps directories online today but the quality ones that are maintained by the owners can help for targetting long tail keywards and provide backlinks.
