Default Worth the Effort?

I currently have three active sites. I am wondering if my site's PR will increase if I submit it to like hundreds of directories. I know it's time consuming. So do you think it's worth the effort?

It depends on various factors actually, if you are submitting in quality directories which approve only quality and content sites in their database. As things are going to be changed, PR game is getting older now, time to convert with quality content and meaningful work.

If your site is providing some sort of services, reason for the users to stay on your site, then you must be getting back links naturally and those natural back links are really counted well, may result in high PR value for your site.

This is true. The directories must submit your site to a much better placed page rank. Also these days many marketing persons do cheap jobs in the name of directory submission. So it all depends on the factors. But still it is a good way to increase the PR.
