Well most content management systems along with most forums are built around php.
I think it will be highly useful to learn php as you will find once you have learnt one scripting language you will be able to adapt to others quite quickly.

It's good to know some basics so you can fix little errors in scripts if you need to. I'd atleast learn how to install PHP scripts and contact forms.

Hi!
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. Much of its syntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP-specific features thrown in. The goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated pages quickly. For more details please visitPHP: Hypertext Preprocessor , for tutorials you can visit W3Schools Online Web Tutorials

Good for you choosing php.

You can go for some best tutorials sites like tizag.com and w3schools.com which is highly recommended.
