1. Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks... It is never too early to start getting backlinks. If you start early, getting backlinks will seem more natural. You do not want to get too many at once as it will trigger the google alarms and your links will be devalued.

2. Domain Name - You really should have a domain name related to your niche. You should have a keyword in your domain name. If you look at my freelance programming website, I did not follow my own advice, but at least i have code and buyers in it

3. Title and Description Tags - Always have some keywords in your title and description tags. Yahoo loves this. Always make sure your title and description tags are different for every page.

4. Content, Content, and more content. The best thing you can do out of all of these suggestions is have quality content on your website. There are websites that rank high without hardly any backlinks. Why? Because they have quality content on their website.

5. Keyword Selection - If you are just creating a site, pick non-competitive keywords. Build your site up so that those keywords reach the top of google and yahoo. Then, start working on the competitive keywords. Do not select more than 10 keywords for a single page. Make sure you have a theme on your website.

I think domain name also must have a keyword. I do not much about this. But as said, the other topics are just the same old topics as backlinks, content, keywords. Does domain name plays any role here?
