theft from my account
i would like to share my experience of theft with paypal
i had $1500 stolen from my account ,
The quick action was to call paypal immediately , inform them about the details, make a complain from paypal before u call so that they know it all.
this helps them to trace the scammers and take some quick action against them. paypal reversed my fees instantly, it was like after 2 days i had noticed this.
one suggestion i would like to make is keep checking your account daily, in case if there is something wrong take action more quickly
if you are late you will loose money.

The thief transferred the money to his/her account? If yes, then it's easy to track thief, right?
I check my Paypal account almost daily. I don't even let my balance reach $500. I always withdraw my money whenever I reach $300. That way I wouldn't be too sorry if someone hacks my account.

Here is an article which i read about paypal security tips and how to protect the account. This article was collected by me and not written by me. I think it will be very useful for the other users so that they could be aware of something.
Prevention is always better than cure , so, first -
How to protect your PayPal account :
1.) The Password -
Choose a password which is different than the passwords you use for DP , for your email address or any other password.
A good option would be to visit this password generator & get a good long password like
5W2bPBV1ioM8r6%@lmkf , which is impossible to guess.
Do not store your password in a document on your PC , use Roboform or a Safe , so that even if your PC is hacked , the passwords cannot be stolen.
Do not use your keyboard to type in your password , use the On-Screen Keyboard available in Windows XP & above. This will nullify any keyloggers.
2.) Phishing Emails -
You may get many emails which look as though they have come from PayPal , but are not from PayPal. To differentiate between real & spoof emails , use Iconix , which is approved by PayPal.
Also, please forward all emails which are not approved by Iconix to spoof [at] paypal [dot] com to help PayPal security team to disable it.
3.) Protecting your PC
Use a combination of an Antivirus , an Antispyware & a Firewall to protect your PC from getting intruded.
You can get all fo these for free , & I would recommend -
Antivirus - Antivir Personal Edition - More about Antiviruses
AntiSpyware - Spyware Search & Destroy
Firewall - Zone Alarm Personal Firewall
Use a safe browser , like Firefox & update it regularly. The latest stable version is 2.0.0.7 .
4.) Use the PayPal security key
It’s a device that generates a temporary 6-digit security code every 30 seconds. Use it every time you log in for added security. It costs a one-time $5 fee , but it is really worth it.
Inspite of this , if your PayPal account does get hacked & the hacker uses the $ in your account to purchase different items, PayPal will help you get them back.
1.) Do not Panic - Even though you have lost a lot of money , do not panic, as there is a good chance that you will get all the money back , within 10 days.
2.) Block/Suspend your Credit Card - If you have a Credit Card associated with your PayPal account, block it , so that no further payments can be made.
3.) View the details of all transactions & get the emails of the people/companies the payments were made to. Using your PayPal email address , email each of them that your account was hacked & the payment made is unauthorised.
4.) Login to your PayPal account , change your password , change both Forgot password questions & their answers.
5.) Go to Resolution Center in your PayPal account , & report all the unauthorised transactions.

Those are some nice tips.
I have to agree on the "Phishing Emails". You need to check the URL before clicking on it.

I get quite a few phishing emails pretending to be from paypal, amazon & ebay.
I've never clicked on a link in my life in those emails and just about always type in the url in my browser, https and i guess that's kept me safe.

They normally instruct you to login into the official paypal site without a clicking link in the email. I have seen some very good spoofs lately though from Paypal as well.
They come from service@paypal.com

Yes. Thats really a nice tips and i want to share that i always get charge back from some people. I hope i will never do that. Next time i will report about that to paypal and hope paypal will take advantages to them. Even its not a big money like $100 or $1000. But its tsill a money right? I earn from hard work but got stolen from someone by charge back..
So, be careful about that. By the way, its not easy to get hacked from your paypal unless you really not secure or take care your account.

I would say the chances of hacking a paypal account are 0/10 unless you do not let out your password to someone/or use the same password for some other site's login/or keep an easy password like your name and the like....

Its true that unless we reveal our password to others the chances are very less. So one must be very careful. Do not even share it with your close friends. Because some may have the habit of opening their accounts when they sit with their best friends. So please avoid even that.
