Unfortunately, both articles give very scare information on off-site optimization for Yahoo which is a very important factor for virtually any SE today...

I'm sure about those tips - they are basic tips. But they are not just for Yahoo!, they are every search engine you can imagine.

Just remember one thing, Google gives priority to Off page SEO while Yahoo! gives to On Page SEO.
