AMD Rolled Out New Two Chip Graphics Card Targeting Gamers

Posted on Jan 29, 2008 12:45:28 PM

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)’ introduced an innovative, advanced ‘two-chip graphics card’ exclusively for the gamers on Monday. The company expects that the new graphics card would help it taking a lead both in price as well as the performance over its archrival ‘Nvidia’.

The new graphics card,” ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2” is a combination of two different graphic processors on one board. This innovative attempt has helped in achieving the double performance of the single chip, the ‘Radeon HD 3870’, which was launched by AMD in the month of November last year.

According to AMD, this “latest graphics card tops a Teraflop, or 1 trillion floating point operations per second.” Such a high ‘operation-speed’ is almost equal to the speed of performing nearly one trillion mathematical calculations per second, the company claims.

Nanochip Will Roll out Terabyte Memory Chip in 2010

Posted on Jan 27, 2008 01:03:01 PM

Nanochip Inc.”, a Fremont, California based chip manufacturing company is running the process of developing its first ‘terabyte memory chips’. The company intends to combine the ‘phase-change media’ to the ‘cantilever read or write heads’ that would be controlled with the help of a ‘micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS)’.

Nanochip’s terabyte memory chips will be using the conventional, DRAM-like interfaces. These chips would be functioning internally just like a multiple-head hard drive. In this hard drive, the slaved MEMS cantilevers will move in unison over their array of bit cells to read and write phase-change media.’ Nanochip’ claims that the first prototypes of these terabyte memory chips will be rolled out sometime during the year 2009. Commercial production and open sale will begin in the year 2010, said Nanochip Inc.

We are well on-track to meet our original schedule of reaching full commercialization of our first product offering by 2010“, said Gordon Knight, CEO of Nanochip Inc.
The size of the potential bit cell terabyte memory chips from ‘Nanochip’ would be measuring almost 2 by 3 nanometers. The company is accordingly accounting for its terabyte-per-chip goal. Initial prototypes of these terabyte memory chips will however be measuring about 15-by-15 nanometers for capacities around 100 Gbytes per chip in while rolling out in the year 2010.

You Tube Facilitates Users with New Mobile Features

Posted on Jan 25, 2008 03:27:18 PM

Top video-sharing web site “YouTube” announced its expansion plans and offered its latest mobile specific features for its users this week. These new features of ‘You Tube’ include an added access to a large catalog of mobile videos. Most of the features like this were available as the desktop versions only until recently.

YouTube for Mobile

Mobile devices users will find these new additions at ‘YouTube’ and would be able to choose from tens of millions of videos, according to the company. However, users are required to have a ‘streaming-capable mobile phone device with 3G technology’. This is a necessary requirement for matching the compatibility with the high-speed data access over cellular networks. Many of such popular cellular networks including the U.S. carriers Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless have all rolled out 3G networks capable of supporting ‘streaming capable multimedia phones’.

Users of the Apple iPhone have an added advantage with the in built facility of this type. Apple’s popular iPhone comes with a preloaded YouTube application. The iPhone on the other side has no support for the ‘3G Technology’. Because of this inability, the video-streaming experience can be sluggish at times for the iPhone users. However, the streaming becomes much faster over Wi-Fi connections.
