Yahoo and AOL may Merge Forces

Posted on Mar 7, 2008 10:13:54 AM

Is it possible that Yahoo would merge with AOL to keep Microsoft out of the picture? While this may sound like a silly idea for a company the size of Yahoo, it has been a topic of great discussion this past week. When it comes down to it, Yahoo needs to make some sort of move before Microsoft decides to step things up in an attempt to take over the company via a proxy battle.

This is an interesting rumor to keep an eye on for several reasons. First and foremost, AOL offers a lot of content through a number of services. This was previously unheard of, but is sure to become more of the status quo as 2008 move forward.

It was only a matter of time before wireless providers began to offer unlimited use plans to consumers in the United States. After all, cell phones have more or less taken over, but with that being said, many users are stuck with high bills due to overuse. With several new plans being offered, these users will be able to take advantage of unlimited minutes in order to ensure that they never again have to pay large overuse charges. Of course, this type of plan is going to come at a high cost.

Several weeks ago, Verizon Wireless was the first company to take the leap. They now offer an unlimited voice plan for $99.99 per month. While this may seem like a lot of money, if you are consistently using more minutes than a basic plan allows, it is an idea to consider.

Is an automated market for online advertising a real possibility? Well, if you speak with those at Turn, a Redwood City, California startup, they will tell you yes. The company is launching its beta phase today, and has high hopes of changing the way that both advertisers and publishers look at the online market.

Although Turn is a small startup, they are already putting together some pretty impressive stats. At this time, they have approximately 3,000 publishers signed up as well as 500 advertisers. While this is far from the statistics offered by industry leaders, Turn is not exactly catering to the same market. After all, they are claiming to be the first fully automated market. In other words, Turn does not operate in the same way as other leaders in the online advertising world such as Google AdSense.
