‘Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)’ introduced an innovative, advanced ‘two-chip graphics card’ exclusively for the gamers on Monday. The company expects that the new graphics card would help it taking a lead both in price as well as the performance over its archrival ‘Nvidia’.
The new graphics card,” ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2” is a combination of two different graphic processors on one board. This innovative attempt has helped in achieving the double performance of the single chip, the ‘Radeon HD 3870’, which was launched by AMD in the month of November last year.
According to AMD, this “latest graphics card tops a Teraflop, or 1 trillion floating point operations per second.” Such a high ‘operation-speed’ is almost equal to the speed of performing nearly one trillion mathematical calculations per second, the company claims.
Video gaming industry is growing exponentially and many companies are designing their products targeting the hardcore gamers. These gamers are looking eagerly for the realistic 3-D effects. Gamers around the globe are interested in using multiple graphics cards and other related software tools. Such intentions and interests of the gamers are backed by two strong reasons. It boosts the clock speed of the CPU and it helps in achieving the peak performance.
AMD’s new twin processors based graphic card stands in completion with the Nvidia’s ‘GeForce 8800 Ultra’. AMD is also competing in prices with $449 for its “Radeon HD 3870 X 2’ that is much cheaper compared to the Nvidia’s ‘GeForce 8800 Ultra’ with $630.
AMD’s new graphics card has an inbuilt support to its ‘CrossFire X Technology’. This combined support system enables the use of four cards on one computer enhancing the performance tremendously.
Market experts opine that AMD’s new graphics card is almost 170% faster than the conventional single chip graphic cards. It is always advantageous having one such card on the motherboard instead of having two single-chip cards as the performance only gets 150% faster in that case.
Over the periods, the graphics performance has become an important factor of the entertainment PCs. There is a huge demand for machines that manage the exponentially growing numbers of video, picture, and audio files. This demand has facilitated the oncoming of cheaper cards and competition among the companies is getting tougher day by day. AMD’s ‘ATI Radeon HD 3400′ series graphics card with integrated chipset, for instance comes with a price range of $49 to $65.
Recently at the ‘Consumer Electronics Show’ at Las Vegas ‘Nvidia’ also launched its integrated chipset technology, the ‘Hybrid SLI’ that will be included with all of its graphic cards beginning from the ‘GeForce 8200′.
