92% Britons are not contented with handling of their personal data

A survey suggests that almost 97 % British customers show concern about the caring and handling of their personal data by different companies. They think that these companies may leave the data open to identify fraud and theft.

The research from National Identity Fraud Prevention Week (NIFPW) shows that almost everyone is worried about the handling of their personal data.

The thing that is more worrying is that almost 92% people think that their own employers are not able enough to keep personal data of the customers safe.

In the online world, Identity fraud is considered one of the fastest growing dangers and NIFPW is a company that is working to raise awareness of the problem that can occur because of losing personal data. Read the rest of this entry »

EC suggests Europe-wide broadband

Because of the fast growth of broadband, the European Commission has become compelled to bring   forward a review of the basic telecoms services that the people in Europe can anticipate.

According to some statistics, almost 36% households in EU member countries have access to high-speed internet.

The biggest internet movie site IMDB starts streaming movies for free

IMDB.com, which is quite well-known as the biggest internet movie site and a haven for movie buffs all around the world, is considering streaming all movies for free to its website.

Things are not being done halves by the company as it offering around 6,000 movies this autumn in which some classics like ‘Some like It Hot’, Raising Arizona, Cult and Fever Pitch have been included.

Heroes, 24, and Family Guy like whole host of TV shows have also been included on the site for free.

53 percent increase in Internet traffic from mid-2007 to mid-2008

A research firm reported Wednesday that during the last year, the International Internet traffic continued to grow, but with a slower rate than before.

TeleGeograhpy Research’s findings are quite important as some US Internet service providers are claiming to struggle with the expansion of online traffic and they want to impose monthly download limits on heavy users. Google Chrome: Google’s own web browser

Google Chrome’, Yup! This is what we call Google’s own web browser that has been created in the form of a comic book that highlights the search giant’s plans for its own browser.

Comic artist Scott McCloud has drawn the comic book and has also revealed critical information about the features of Google Chrome. Scott states on his website that he is working on a ‘secret project’.

At the end of the comic, Google summarizes what Chrome means to them: “we live on the Internet and we want to make it better without competition.”

“This is the factor that makes us open sourcing the whole thing. We want internet a smart, fair and safe place.”

Be careful! Facebook under worms’ attack

Spammers in search of information to commit ID fraud are invading Facebook and other social networking sites these days. According to some members, their accounts have been hijacked or deactivated and they are receiving much more spam than usual. A source explains that malware abuses were higher in the last month than the same period last year.

Some estimates reveal that Facebook has more than 100 million account holders. Most of these attacks are because of the variants of a worm known as Koobface, which has been slithering around the syberguts of Facebook as well as MySpace during the last month.  But now Facebook is claiming that everything is in control now.

Rule changes frustrate eBay sellers

NEW YORK – Popular online auction site eBay has recently been introducing changes to help make the site more attractive.  However, recent changes have had the opposite effect and frustrated those using the site to sell products.

Changes in the fee structure, search results and feedback system are meant to achieve the objective of getting more buyers to use the site.  The compulsion to make these changes was due to a worrying trend showing a slowing in the growth of active users.  Recent quarterly figures indicate that the number of active users increased only 1.4 percent to 84.5 million.

In January, eBay altered its fee structure to get sellers to put more items on sale so it could encourage more activity.  Commission rates were set higher if the auctioned products were sold for less than $1,000.
