Online T.V viewers are on increase in the U.S., a survey shows

Almost every fifth U.S. television viewer is using computer instead of television set to watch primetime programs online. Majority of these people is consisted of educated professional women, a new survey shows.

The survey results indicate that almost 50 percent people viewing TV programs on the Web as they are getting available online. According to Integrated Media Measurement Inc. (IMMI) which conducted that survey, “It seems that soon computer would serve as the biggest substitute for the T.V. set.”

The other 50 percent use the Web to view those programs that they have missed.

Ask.com will acquire Dictioanry.com and other reference sites

SAN FRANCISCO — To distinguish itself from Google and other online big players, Ask.com is going to buy loads of internet reference sites including Dictionary.com.

In its purchase of Lexico Publishing Group LLC, Ask.com is also trying to get Thesaurus.com and Reference.com besides Dictionary.com. The terms of this deal have not been disclosed but expected to be announced on Thursday.

Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com and Reference.com are widely used as reference tools and with their addition, Ask is trying to make more money by showing ads to people who want answers about their basic questions.

Online Shopping – Does it Guarantee Security?

A recent study from the Pew Internet Project highlights on the love and hate relationship that numerous Americans share with e-commerce. Results of the survey say that 78% of internet users in America agree that shopping online is convenient while 68% states that they can save a lot of time with it. However, 75% of the respondents stressed out that they hate the idea of disclosing their personal information such as their credit card number and details via internet.

These security concerns and issues prevent the potential of e-commerce from growing and developing as stated by John Horrigan, Pew Internet Project’s Associate Director and author of the said report. These risks remain to be questionable whether they are just perceived by the internet users or they are real, after all.

Adobe PDF Version 1.7: One Step Forward To International Standards

Stepping ahead with technological advancements and user’s aspirations, the next version of ‘Adobe Systems‘ PDF document format’ has received overwhelming approval from an international standards body. This new advanced version from ‘Adobe’ is very close to final adoption.

The committee, “Standards Committee of the International Standards Organization (SCISO)” comprises of fifteen member countries in all. Out of these 15 member countries, nine voted yes without comments and four gave their approval with comments for this new initiative from ‘Adobe’.

James King, PDF architect and senior principal scientist at Adobe, explains details about this happening in the company’s Inside PDF blog. France was the only member country to vote against ‘PDF 1.7’, with Russia abstaining. Italy sent comments despite being a nonvoting member of the committee panel.
